GORHAM, Maine  -   Sophomore Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine/Oxford Hills) scored her 10^th goal of the season late in the fourth quarter to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 2-1 win over the Keene State College Owls in Little East Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.  
 
Facing each other for the 42^nd time in series history, Southern Maine has won its last two over the Owls previously defeating KSC 1-0 on October 19, 2019.  KSC leads the series 30-11-0. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for KSC, while the win is the second consecutive for USM.  The Huskies are 3-1 in their last four games.

How It Happened:

•  Keene State took a 1-0 lead early in the second quarter when freshman Grace Taylor (Goffstown, N.H./Portsmouth) collected a loose ball in the circle and pushed it past USM junior goalkeeper Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine).  Taylor's goal is her fifth of the season.
• USM tied the game up seconds before the halftime whistle.  Freshman Abigail Chartier (Lewiston, Maine) collected the rebound off of a saved shot from sophomore Olivia Lambert (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and hit a shot to the far post for her third goal of the season.
• Both teams battled through a scoreless third, registering three shots a piece in the quarter, and headed into the fourth tied up at 1-1.
• Carson recorded her 10^th goal of 2021, and her team-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season, redirecting a laser of a pass from freshman Elizabeth Gonyea (Rindge, N.H./Conant).

 
Inside The Stats:

•  Gonyea's assist marks her first point of the season for USM.  The Huskies freshman has played in all 18 games and has started 10 of them.
• Carson is tied for the Huskies' lead in goals scored. She and freshman Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) each have 10 goals on the season. 
• USM held a narrow 14-13 lead in shots (9-7 on goal).  The Huskies also had an 11-7 lead in penalty corners.

 
The Goalkeepers:

• Husky junior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) turned in a strong performance in net making six saves. 
• KSC sophomore Molly Edmark (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) made seven saves.

Southern Maine remains in Little East Conference action and hosts Plymouth State University on Tuesday (4:00 pm).  Keene State hosts Castleton in an LEC match on Tuesday (6:30 pm).
