Huskies Fall to Plymouth State 2-1 in Double Overtime

PLYMOUTH, N.H.  –   Freshman Ethan Bryce (Seymour, Conn.) headed in the game-winning goal in the 105th minute of play to lead the Plymouth State Panthers to a double overtime victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference play on Wednesday in Plymouth. 

The Records: 
Southern Maine (4-7-1, 0-5 LEC)
Plymouth State (2-8, 1-5 LEC)

How It Happened: 
  • The Huskies struck first when Zekariya Shaib (Portland, Maine/Portland) netted his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 20th minute of play. 
  • Plymouth State answered back 20 minutes into the second half on a goal from senior Eli Child (Woodstock, Conn.).
  • After almost the end of regulation and a scoreless first overtime, Bryce secured the win for the Panthers in the second overtime period. 
Inside the Stats: 
  • The Panthers outshot the Huskies 16-12, but the Huskies put more on frame and had a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Huskies also had more corner kick opportunities than the Panthers, 11-7.
The Goalkeepers:
  • Junior Jacob Statires (Hampton, N.H./Bedford) made three saves in the loss. 
  • Sophomore Nicolas Cornejo (Durham, N.H.) picked up his second win of the season, making six saves in the effort.
Up Next: 
Southern Maine remains on the road for its third consecutive away game and will face Rhode Island College on Saturday (1:00 pm) in a Little East Conference matchup.  Plymouth State travels to Castleton University on Saturday (4:00 pm) for an LEC contest.
