(Contributions from RIC)
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island  –   Junior Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored the game-winner in the 95th minute to lead the Rhode Island College Anchormen to a 1-0 overtime win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Snapping a three-game slide, Rhode Island College has come away with a win in its last nine meetings with the Huskies and now leads the series 31-16-7.  USM has lost its last six games consecutively.

Rhode Island College (8-5, 5-2 LEC)

How It Happened:
  • Both teams registered six shots in the opening half and went into the halftime break knotted up in a scoreless game. USM and RIC each had four shots on goal, and USM had a 3-1 advantage in first half corner kicks.
  • RIC had an early chance for a 1-0 lead after being awarded a penalty kick in the sixth minute, but USM senior goalkeeper Hayes Estrella (Kennebunk, Maine) made a diving stop to his right to deny Anchormen senior Jonathan Oliviera (Providence, R.I.).
  • RIC had a solid chance for the first goal of the game in the 59th minute on a shot from senior Sa-Leem Kamarah (Providence, R.I.) but Estrella made an outstanding save to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Anchormen controlled possession for most of the second half and led the Huskies in shot 13-8 but USM did enough to keep RIC off of the board to force overtime.
  • Blanco ended the game in overtime, collecting a loose ball off of Oliviera's initial shot which was blocked at the top of the box.  The goal is Blanco's sixth of the season.
