BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts-Boston Beacons swept the doubles and singles points on their way to a 9-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in Boston on Tuesday. With the win, the Beacons move to 6-3 on the season, 5-2 in the Little East Conference, while the Huskies drop to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in the Little East Conference.
In the most competitive doubles match of the day, freshman
Breanna Miclette (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) and sophomore
Jordan Cote (Hope, Maine/Camden Hills Regional) Â challenged the Beacon's Skylar Robles (Spokane, Wash.) and Aya Kamil (Weymouth, Mass.) at third doubles, but ultimately fell 8-2. Senior captain
Emma Nassif (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and sophomore
Kenadi Sawyer (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) dropped their match at first doubles 8-1 to Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) and Elena Albano (Haverhill, Mass.), while sophomores
Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and
Lily Madden (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) fell to Meaghan Moriarty (Norton, Mass.) and Lia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.) 8-0 at second doubles.
In singles play, Nassif and Miclette had the most successful matches of the day, but both fell 6-1, 6-1 at first and fourth doubles to Chan and Moriarty, respectively. At fifth singles, Madden dropped her match to Tanya Kibiy (Rockville, Md.) 6-1, 6-0. At second and third singles, Sawyer and Brock each lost 6-0, 6-0 to Vassiliadis and Albano, while at sixth singles, junior Rachel Grome (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) fell to Kamil 8-1.Â
