DANBURY, CT - Three different players scored for the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team as it blanked visiting University of Southern Maine, 3-0 at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials, now 6-7-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the Little East Conference, took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when Vigan Pacuku (Prospect, CT) finished off a long pass from midfielder Lucas Saunders (Middletown, CT). It was Pacuku's third goal of the season.
Freshman Chauncey Allers (Wilton, CT) added his team-leading seventh goal of the season after Ryan Hopley (Cromwell, CT) led him down field will a lengthy pass at the 66:04 mark.
Kenan Hodzic (Wethersfield, CT) added an insurance goal, his second of the season, with 7:17 remaining in the game. He was set up by an assist from Andriy Paparo (Bethel, CT).
Freshman goalie Luca DiCarlo (Waterbury, CT) improves to 4-0 on the season after making six saves for the winners. It is his second collegiate shut out.
Simon Hulbert (Bar Harbor, ME) suffered the loss in goal for the Huskies, now 2-12-1 overall and winless in the LEC at 0-6. He made five saves on the day.
The Colonials hed a 22-13 advantage on shots in the victory, their second in a row following a 2-1 win over Ramapo College last Tuesday.
Western Connecticut wraps up its home schedule on Wednesday, October 28 when it plays host to Westfield State University. Prior to the start of the game, the Colonials will celebrate the careers of their four seniors, Phil Dagostino (New Fairfield, CT), Aislan Sartori (Danbury, CT), Victor Lavoura (Naugatuck, CT) and Chris Jeffrey (Norwalk, CT).
Southern Maine travels to Salem State University for a 7 pm meeting with the Vikings on Tuesday, October 27.
