ECAC Men's East Championship Tournament Quarterfinal
Babson Blanks Southern Maine 6-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The nationally-ranked Babson College Beavers got goals from six different players and goalies Jamie Murray (Scituate, Mass.) and Danny Rivellini (Great Falls, Va.) combined for 16 saves as the Beavers shut out the University of Southern Maine Huskies, 6-0, in a quarterfinal round game of the ECAC Men's East Championship Tournament Saturday night at the Babson Skating Center.

The win was the 20th of the season for the second-seeded Beavers, now 20-4-2 overall, and advances them into next weekend's semifinal round hosting the third-seed University of Massachusetts Boston.  The Beavers were ranked eighth nationally in both Division III polls this week.  The seventh-seeded Huskies conclude the season 6-15-5.

The game was delayed 45 minutes due to USM's transportation problems getting to Babson.  Once underway, the two sides skated through a scoreless first period with the home side holding a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.

It took the Beavers just 39 seconds into the second period to snap the deadlock.  Sophomore Mike Vollmin (Wilmington, N.C.) scored a power-play goal off an assist from rookie Michael Phillips (Richmond Heights, Ohio) just five seconds after the Beavers went on the man advantage.  Junior Mike Driscoll (Milton, Mass.) doubled the advantage at 3:41 with Vollmin earning the lone assist.

Freshman Dan Casey (Chatham, N.J.) and seniors Matt O'Neill (Norwell, Mass.) and Matt Furey (Quincy, Mass.) would add goals before the end of the period to increase the Beavers' lead to 5-0.  Furey's goal came while the Beavers were on the power play.

The Beavers continued their offensive onslaught in the third period sending 17 shots in on USM sophomore goalie Josh Hillegas (Middleton, Wis.) who replaced freshman starter Dylan Wells (Nashville, Tenn.) at the start of the third period.  Hillegas only surrendered a goal to freshman Tim Searles (Chesapeake, Va.) while making 16 saves.

Thirteen of Babson's 18 skaters picked up a point in the game.  Vollmin and Driscoll each finished with a goal and an assist while senior Ben Kravitz (Huntington, N.Y.) had two assists.

Murray, the league's Player of the Year, made 15 saves before giving way to Rivellini, a senior making just his third appearance of the season, with 4:38 remaining.  Murray had 15 saves while Rivellini was credited with one stop.  Wells made 21 saves over the first two periods before giving way to Hillegas.
