Box Score

GORHAM, Maine -- Freshman Brad McGovern (Haverhill, Mass.) scored a pair of power-play goals as the University of Southern Maine Huskies converted four times with the man advantage en route to a 7-3 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in an ECAC Men's East game Saturday at the USM Ice Arena.

The win gave the Huskies a sweep of the teams' weekend home-and-home series.  The Huskies won Friday's game at UNE by a 5-1 count.  The Huskies improved to 8-9-4 overall and 6-6-2 in league play.  The Nor'easters dropped their ninth consecutive decision to slide to 3-15-2 overall and 1-13-0 in the league.

Despite being out shot 15-11 in the second period, it would be the Huskies scoring the only goals.  Sophomore Jamie Osborne (Grand Lake, N.S.) scored on the power play at 9:37, and McGovern would tally his second power-play mark of the game at 19:22 to make it 6-0.

UNE finally solved the goaltending of USM sophomore Braely Torris (Eckville, Alberta) midway through the final period.  Freshman Zeth Zielinski (Woonsocket, R.I.) scored a power-play goal at 10:12.  Senior Scott McManaman (Amherst, N.S.) scored at 13:05, just seconds after another UNE power play had expired.

USM sophomore Kody Collins (Keswick, Ontario) and UNE rookie Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) would trade goals in the final three minutes to account for the final tally.

McGovern also had two assists to finish the game with four points.  Seward passed out a season-high four helpers   Osborne and Vrachnas would each finish with a goal and an assist.  Torris registered 34 saves.

Junior Russ Franey (York, Maine) would pick up a pair of assists for the Nor'easters.  Rookie Craig Ryan (Wallingford, Conn.) started in goal for the Nor'easters and recorded 15 saves over the first two periods.  Sophomore Keith MacDonald (Storrs, Conn.) came on to play the final period and had three saves.  The Nor'easters finished the game out shooting the Huskies 37-25.

Next weekend the Huskies will travel south to play Babson College on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday (4:00 p.m.).  The Nor'easters will play at UMass Boston on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Babson on Saturday (4:00 p.m.).
