Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Dan Rautenberg (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored a pair of goals and junior Jon Grandinetti (Ottawa, Ontario) added a goal and two assists as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the University of New England Nor'easters, 5-1, in an ECAC Men's East game Friday night at the Biddeford Ice Arena.
The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Huskies, and improved their record to 7-9-4 overall and 5-6-2 in league play. The Nor'easters dropped their eighth straight decision to fall to 3-14-2 overall and 1-12-0 in league games. The two teams meet again Saturday afternoon (4:00 p.m.) at the USM Ice Arena.
Rautenberg scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 12:30 of the first period off a set up from Grandinetti and senior Chris LaCount (South Easton, Mass.). Ruatenberg added a power-play goal in the third period, assisted by Grandinetti and rookie Ryan Seward (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), to help seal the victory.
The Huskies took the lead in the opening minute of play on rookie Lorne Miller's (Montreal, Quebec) first collegiate goal. Rautenberg's first goal of the night made it 2-0.
USM freshman Matt Tucceri (Kennebunk, Maine) potted the lone goal of the second period, assisted by classmate Brad McGovern (Haverhill, Mass) and sophomore Mike Greene (Arvada, Colo.).
Grandinetti increased the Huskies' lead to 4-0 with a power-play marker midway through the third period before the Nor'easters got on the board on the sixth goal of the season from junior Tyler Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine). Rautenberg's power-play goal closed the scoring.
McGovern and Seward each finished the game with two assists for the Huskies. Freshman Zeth Zielinski (Woonsocket, R.I.) and sophomore Zach Lokey (Elizabethtown, Pa.) were credited with assists on the lone UNE goal.
Sophomore goalie Braely Torris (Eckville, Alberta) picked up the win stopping 28 of 29 shots in the USM goal. Sophomore Ian Edwards (Linden, Mich.) registered 22 saves for UNE.
