GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine junior forward Zach Joy (Dover, N.H.) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's East Player of the Week for the opening weekend of play in 2009-2010 season. The announcement was made today by the ECAC office in Centerville, Mass.
This is the first time in his two-plus seasons with the Huskies that Joy has received a weekly accolade from the league.
In the Huskies two season-opening games last weekend against Saint Michael's College and nationally-ranked Norwich University, the 5-foot-11 wing scored three goals. He had two goals, including the game-winning goal, in the Huskies' 3-2, opening-night win over Saint Michael's. He had a power-play marker the next day in a 4-3 loss to Norwich.
Joy has scored 24 goals, including six game winners, and passed out 18 assists for 42 points in 54 career games.
Southern Maine, 1-1 on the season, plays a non-conference game at Colby College tonight (7:30 p.m.), and hosts New England College for another non-conference contest on Saturday (7:00 p.m.).
