A 2014 graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, SamLeal will join the University of Southern Maine Men’sBasketball Staff for the 2014-2015 season.

Leal earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Educationwith a concentration in Mathematics, graduating with cum laudedistinction.  Leal is continuing his education at SouthernMaine and is enrolled in the Professional Educator Master's degreeprogram. 
As a member of the University of Maine at Farmington men'sbasketball team, Leal was a two-year captain for legendary CoachDick Meader.  Leal helped lead his team to a regular seasonchampionship as a junior during the 2012-2013 as the Beaversfinished with 21 wins.  As a senior in 2013-2014, Leal guidedUMF to the North Atlantic Conference championship game, falling inovertime to eventual champion Husson University. Leal led his teamassists in 2013-2014 and had a career-high 12 assists in the 2014NAC Championship game, earning all-tournament honors. 

A two-time member of the NAC All-Academic team earning theaccolade as a junior and a senior, Leal was also a member of theNational Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2012-13 HonorsCourt. 

 Leal also participated as a member of the Beavers' CrossCountry team as a senior, earning NAC Rookie of the Week honors inOctober.   Prior to UMaine Farmington,  Leal was athree-sport athlete at York High School. Playing four years ofvarsity baseball and varsity basketball; a year of golf and a yearof football. Leal earned Western Maine All Conference honors inboth basketball and baseball. He was twice elected captain of thebasketball team at York and served as a baseball team captain inhis senior year.
