Jeff Beaney

           Just the sixth coach in the 35-year history of the University ofSouthern Maine's men's ice hockey program, veteran head coach JeffBeaney begins his 27th season at the helm of the Huskies. With over a quarter-century-long relationship with the USM icehockey program, Beaney served as the Huskies' assistant coach fortwo season before taking control of the program in 1987.

           The winningest coach in school history with a 253-356-45 careerrecord, Beaney earned his 200th career victory during the 2007-2008season with a 7-4 win over Suffolk University.  Over the past10 seasons, Beaney's charges have compiled a 113-123-27 record andearned their first-ever top 10 national ranking, rising to seventhin the USCHO.com National Poll during the 2007-2008 season. During the 2004-05 season, Beaney guided the Huskies to a 15-10-2mark and was named the ECAC Men's East Coach of the Year.

           Over the past 26 seasons, Beaney has mentored his student-athletesto individual accolades, including two ACHA All-Americans, an ECACNorth Player of the Year, an ECAC East Goaltender of the Year andECAC East Rookie of the Year honors.  Since joining the ECACEast in 1995, Beaney's players have earned 24 All-ECAC, 10 ECACAll-Rookie and 10 NEWA All-New England awards.

           A 1977 graduate of Lake Placid High School, Beaney attended theUniversity of New Hampshire for two years before transferring toNew England College where he played for his older brother, Bill,presently the head coach at Middlebury College.  Beaney wastwice named to the All-ECAC Division II East team and was named tothe All-New England squad as selected by the New England HockeyWriters Association.  In his two seasons at NEC, he scored 45goals and had 84 assists for 129 points.  He won the team'sLeo Callahan Coaches Award his senior year.

           Upon graduation from New England College, Beaney signed with theQuebec Nordiques as a free agent.  He was assigned to theNordiques' Erie, Penn., affiliate in the Eastern HockeyLeague.  He played one season with the Nordiques organizationbefore accepting a one-season position as the player-coach of anElite Team in Copenhagen, Denmark.  He returned to the statesas an assistant hockey and lacrosse coach at Colby College in1984.

           Beaney received his degree in secondary education/history from NewEngland College in 1982.
