Beginning his eighth season with the Huskies’ baseball staff,Bob Prince, 42, was a three-time ABCA All-American while patrollingthe outfield for the USM from 1989-1992. He will serve as theprimary hitting coach and work with the outfielders.
Among his previous coaching positions prior to returning to USMwere an assistant coaching position at St. Joseph’s College,hitting coach with the Sanford Mainers of the NECBL and head coachat Wells (Maine) High School.
During his stellar four-year career playing for Coach Flaherty,Prince helped the Huskies make three appearances in the NCAADivision III World Series, including winning the school’sfirst national title in 1991.
In addition to being named to the ABCA All-American team threetimes, he was named to the All-Northeast and All-New England teamsall four seasons. He was named the ECAC Division III NewEngland Player of the Year in 1991 and was on the All-ECAC teamfour times. After his playing days at USM were completed, heplayed professionally in Holland for one season.
One of the finest hitters in school history, Prince still holds thecareer record for most doubles (63) and batting average(.414). His career record for most hits (253) stood until2001, and his RBI mark (177) stood at the top of the chart until2003. He remains amongst the single season and career leadersin many offensive categories.
Prince, who also serves as the athletic department's equipmentmanager and intramural director, received his degree incommunication from USM in 1992. He and his wife, Jenn, havethree children and reside in South Portland, Maine.
