Now in his second decade as an assistant coach with the USM men’s track & field program, Mike Drummey has provided invaluable guidance to the Huskies’ men and women’s pole vaulters. The 2025-26 season will be his 23rd season coaching the USM pole vaulters.

One of the top pole vaulters in New England during his collegiate days at Southern Connecticut State University, Drummey won the NCAA Division Two indoor and outdoor pole vault championships in 1995, and was runner-up indoors and third outdoors in 1994. During his career, he earned All-American honors six times (three indoor, three outdoor). Drummey won the outdoor IC4A title and was third at the Penn Relays in 1994. He still holds the SCSU school record indoors (17-8 1/2) and outdoors (17-6 1/2).

During his tenure with the USM men and women’s track & field programs, Drummey has coached six All-Americans (Wil Snyder, 2004; Melissa Bellemore, 2006; Bethany Dumas, 2011; Molly Gibeault, 2017; Sophia Slovenski, 2020; Ben Drummey (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), and 67 Little East Conference champions. In 2022, Drummey coached his son Ben to a national championship in the pole vault during the indoor track season. Ben captured a second national championship in 2023.
