Scott Heath

Maine native Scott Heath was named the 10th head coach of the University of Southern Maine baseball team in June of 2024 following the retirement of long-time Huskies’ head coach Ed Flaherty.  He led the Huskies to a 20-19 record and the No. 4 seed in the Little East Conference Tournament in his first season at the helm.

Heath coached five players to All-LEC honors during the 2025 season including First Team All-LEC first baseman Kyle Douin. Douin and infielder Peter Keblinsky were also named First Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Region. Keblinsky earned D3baseball.com All-Region honors as well. The team also had six players earn 2025 Maine College Baseball and Softball Association All-State honors.

Heath took over the Southern Maine program after spending five seasons of coaching at the University of Maine. He was elevated to associate head coach in the fall of 2023 after serving as recruiting coordinating and pitching coach since 2019. He helped guide the Black Bears to a America East Conference regular season title in 2022 and 2023 with the 2023 team winning the America East Conference Tournament. While at Maine, he mentored seven All-Conference pitchers, four All-Rookie pitchers, and the 2021 America East Pitcher of the Year.

Before his time at UMaine, Heath spent two seasons at Mitchell College where he served as recruiting coordinator and pitching coach during the 2017-18 school year before being promoted to associate head coach in 2019. Under his tutelage, the Mariners’ pitching staff finished seventh in NCAA Division III in ERA in 2018 and the 2019 staff finished fifth. While at Mitchell he helped the team to the 2019 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship and an NCAA Regional appearance. He produced several All-NECC pitchers, including ones that earned NECC Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards.

Heath’s first collegiate coaching position was an assistant coach with UMaine in 2017, where he worked mainly with the Black Bears’ pitching staff. In the summer of 2017, he served as head coach of Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League’s Norsemen and led them to the inaugural GNCBL Championship.  

A native of Westbrook, Maine, Heath played four seasons at UMaine as a pitcher and first baseman for the Black Bears and earned First Team All-America East honors in 2014 and 2015. He was also named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2012 and was named team captain as a senior. Heath led the team in batting average in 2014 with a .361 clip and earned All-New England First Team and the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association First Team honors. He hit .311 over 186 career games in a UMaine uniform. 

Following his collegiate career, Heath played a season of professional baseball for the Old Orchard Beach Surge and the Joplin Blasters in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.

 Heath had a standout scholastic career at Westbrook High School as three-time All-State selection and was named Maine Gatorade Player of the Year in 2011.
