The USM Field House opened in May 1998 to complete the Costello
Sports Complex facility. It features a six-lane, 200-meter track
with tennis courts, basketball courts as well as practice areas for
baseball and softball.
USM's men's and women's track and field teams compete in the field
house. The Field House has ben the site of numerous Little
East Conference Championships as well as the NEICAAA Women's
Championships (2000) and the New England Division III Women's
Championships (2010) since the facility opened. The Maine
State Principals Association has also staged one of its annual high
school state championship meets at the Field House.
In addition, USM's men's and women's tennis teams use the facility
for practice and for competition when weather dictates. The
Field House seats 750.
In addition to academic year activities, the Field House is also an
integral part of the USM Summer Sports Camps program and a number
of sports clinics held throughout the year. It is also one of the
university's fitness facilities with opportunities for running and
walking for exercise.
The Field House is also a frequent venue for community events such
as high school track meets, scholastic fairs and commercial
shows.
The facility was built by Harriman Associates and cost $5.5
million.
