Morin, Jepson Second Half Goals Help Southern Maine Tie on the Road 2-2 at Husson

BANGOR, Maine – Sophomore Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 78th minute to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a come-from-behind 2-2 draw on the road at the Husson University Eagles in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday night at John P. Boucher Field.

The Records:
Southern Maine (3-2-1)
Husson University (2-2-1)

Today's game marks the 17th meeting between the two schools, and the first since the 2021 season. Southern Maine leads the overall series 11-5-1. After winning the first nine games of the series dating back to 1987, Husson had won five consecutive from 2005 through 2015. The Huskies are 2-0-1 against the Eagles since resuming the series in 2021, outscoring Husson 10-4.

How It Happened:
  • After a sluggish first half offensively, being outshot 6-4 by the Eagles, Southern Maine trailed 2-0 on a pair of quick goals from Jaquie Pangburn.  Pangburn put the Eagles up 1-0 in the 34th minute and then scored her second goal of the game almost immediately after the kick off on an assist from Ella Hosford.
  • Southern Maine pressed in the first half to find a goal, and after winning a corner kick, Husky freshman Sierra Jepson (Haverhill, Mass.) put USM on the board on a service from junior Natalie Flageolle (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy).  Jepson's goal is the first of her intercollegiate career.
  • USM put five more shots towards goal, three on frame, over the next several minutes, but Husson goalkeeper Gabriella Smith made several big stops to keep the Eagles ahead.  The Huskies finally broke through for the equalizer when Morin scored off of an assist from freshman Mia Wetzel (Oviedo, Fla.) for a 2-2 game.  Wetzel's assist is her second and her second consecutive.
  • USM had a pair of near goals in the closing seconds including a shot from Wetzel that was stopped in a diving effort from Smith, and a shot that missed right from freshman Emily Philipp (Baie-d'Urfé, Quebec/Beaconsfield).

The Goalkeepers:
SM: Kaylee Vasiloff (1-1-1), 90:00, 2 GA, 3 Saves
HU: Gabriella Smith (2-2-1). 90:00, 2 GA, 7 Saves
