How It Happened:
- UMass Boston took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run single to center field from Brandon Gear. Nick Farnacci and Elliot Miles sandwiched a single and a double around a line-out to give Gear baserunners. Despite another single in the inning from Ben Sherry, USM avoided further damage getting the final two outs.
- Despite collecting a hit in each of the first three innings the Huskies remained scoreless, and Beacon Robert Wunsch kept the game 2-0 in favor of UMB with a 1-2-3 top of the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, UMass Boston increased its lead to 3-0. After getting the first two outs of the inning, Sturrup reached on an error, and then scored, unearned, on a single through the right side from Farnacci.
- USM made it a one-run game in the top of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs on two hits and a Beacon error. Senior Hunter Brissette (Lisbon, Maine) reached on an error, and them moved up to second on a single from junior Carter Higgins (Truro, Nova Scotia). After a ground out, both Brissette and Higgins moved to third and second respectively before junior Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine) had a two-out, two-run single through the left side for a 3-2 score.
- Husky junior Carson Black (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth and Southern Maine manufactured a run in the sixth to tie the game up at three. Sophomore Drew Scialdone (Amesbury, Mass.) and senior Mike Anquillare (North Haven, Conn) led off with back-to-back singles. With runners on first and third and one out, senior Chris Quigley (Halifax, Mass.) picked up the RBI with a fielder's choice.
- UMB took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth however, collecting three hits. Ryan Slack led off with a single, and Jayden Lafleur hit a one-out double to put Beacons on first and third. With runners in scoring position, Sturrup connected on an infield single for a 4-3 lead. Facing runners still on first and third with one out, Black ended the inning with a strikeout and a ground out.
- USM had a lead off runner in the seventh, but Owen Ellsworth, who entered in relief of Wunsch to start the inning, came back with a ground out, a pop up and a strikeout to eliminate the three. In the top of the eighth, Ellsworth got the first two outs of the inning before Austin Stone got the final out via strikeout for a 1-2-3 inning.
- Husky freshman Hayden Strout (Charleston, Maine/Foxcroft Academy), who entered in the bottom of the seventh, retired his sixth consecutive batters with a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth keeping USM in it and down a run headed into the top of the ninth. In the ninth, UMB's Ben Cherry got the first two outs before loading the bases on a hit-by-pitch, and back-to-back walks giving the Huskies life. However, Beacon Connor Curtis entered and earned the save getting the final out of the game for the 4-3 final.
