Today's game marked the 33rd meeting in program history between the University of Southern Maine and the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, but just the fourth time in the last decade. Bowdoin leads the overall series 30-1-2, but the Huskies are 1-2-1 since restarting the series with the Polar Bears in 2023. Southern Maine earned a 1-0 win at Bowdoin in 2023, a 0-0 draw in 2024 in Gorham, and Bowdoin took a 5-2 win in 2025 in Brunswick.
How It Happened:
- Bowdoin controlled possession to start, but Husky freshman goalkeeper McKenzie Vano (Trumbull, Conn.) made several strong defensive plays and four saves in the opening half to keep the Polar Bears off the board. Vano made back-to-back diving stops in the 13th minute as Bowdoin pressured.
- Bowdoin broke through for its first goal in the 36th minute. Sofia Rua knocked in a loose ball after Vano made the initial stop on a shot from Kayley Huleatt.
- Southern Maine found its offensive rhythm to start the second half, and put its first shot on goal off the head of sophomore Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine) in the 47th minute. Sophomore Marie Benoit (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) had a great look at goal on an outstanding service in from freshman Mia Wetzel (Oviedo, Fla.), but her attempt was blocked out for the Huskies' first corner of the game on a strong defensive play from Bowdoin's Golden Brown. Neal put one towards goal off of the corner, but Bowdoin's Natalie Cooke collected the ball for the save.
- Musry scored the first of her two goal in the 82nd minute, collecting a loose ball in the box and finishing to the left side of the goal. She notched the brace on a direct kick to make it 3-0 in the 87th after a tough call near the 18.
- Southern Maine responded quickly on the kick off. Benoit fired one on target forcing Cooke to make a save, and Neal collected the rebound and finished adeptly to the near post for the 3-1 final.
