Mahar) scored in the 10th minute on a Jack Brady (Stuart, Fla.) assist and senior Gabe Wagner (Freeport, Maine) made four big saves to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 1-1 draw on the road at Bates College in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday night at Russell Street Track and Field.

Tonight's game marked the 35th meeting between the University of Southern Maine and Bates College.  Bates leads the overall series 17-9-9; however, Southern Maine is 0-1-3 in the last four meetings, earning a 0-0 draw in 2023, and a 2-2 draw in 2025. Bates earned a 3-0 win at home in 2024.

How It Happened:
  • Southern Maine struck first scoring in the 10th minute. Husky senior Jack Brady (Stuart, Fla.) found classmate Cole Johnson (Orange, Mass./Ralph C. Mahar) for the scoring chance, and Johnson converted to the low right side of the goal for his sixth goal of the season.
  • Bates leveled the game in the 19th minute when Luc Parr finished an assist from Marc Chedid. Southern Maine finished the first half leading Bates in shots 8-6 and 3-2 in corners, but the game remained tied 1-1 at the break.
  • Bates carried the offense to open the second half, earning a corner in the opening minute and Chedid putting a shot on frame at USM senior goalkeeper Gabe Wagner (Freeport, Maine).  Wagner made the save, and turned back another in the 57th, again from Chedid.
  • Southern Maine's Nick Mauro (York, Maine) put one on frame in the 56th minute registering the Huskies' first shot in the second half. The Huskies created several goal scoring opportunities in the final 10 minutes. Senior Ahmed Al Mshakheel (Baghdad, Iraq/Biddeford) earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute.  Seniors Nathan Brown (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Jonah Naratil (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley), and junior Alex Graver (Freeport, Maine) each put shots on target but were turned aside by saves from Bates' goalkeeper George Nassar.
  • Bates had the last shot on target in the game as Connor Seymour hit one to the top right, but Wagner came up with the save to keep the game at 1-1.
