CASTINE, Maine – Four different players scored a goal as the University of Southern Maine Huskies rallied from an early one-goal deficit to defeat the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners 4-1 in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday night at Ritchie Field.
Sophomores
Makyla Magid (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) and
Taryn Curry (Scarborough, Maine/Freeport), and seniors
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) and
Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) each had a goal as the Huskies dumped the previously undefeated Mariners who entered the game at 6-0. Sophomore
Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village) and freshman
Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine) each had two assists.

Facing each other for the ninth time in series history, Southern Maine leads the all-time series 8-0-1. Southern Maine defeated Maine Maritime 10-2 in the 2024 match. Maine Maritime earned a 1-1 draw during the 2018 season. Prior to the 2024 contest, the Huskies and Mariners had played last during the 2022 season with the Huskies earning a 7-1 win.
How It Happened:
- Hadley Stoddard opened the scoring early in the contest tucking away her seventh goal of the season in the fourth minute off of an assist from Abby Wong to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.
- The Huskies probed for an equalizer and found one in the 26th minute as Magid struck for the near post on a through ball to the left side of the field from Morin. The game remained tied at the halftime whistle despite Southern Maine holding a large 13-3 advantage in shots. MMA keeper Isa Thesing made all five of her saves in the first half to keep the Mariners par with the Huskies.
- Southern Maine took the lead for good in the 67th as Hill scored her first goal of the season and the sixth of her career placing the ball to the lower right corner of the net on Morin's second feed of the night.
- Five minutes later Reitchel made it 3-1 receiving a well-placed ball across the field from Przybilla and striking to the far post in the 72nd minute.
- The Huskies iced the game in the 77th minute when Curry hit a long distance blast beating Thesing in the air. Przybilla ran onto a long through ball from Kadyne Smith (Biddeford, Maine), and left a ball behind for Curry who lined up for the shot and scored.

Southern Maine finally returns to Gorham on Saturday, September 27 (1:00 pm) against Little East opponent Rhode Island College. The Huskies have played six consecutive road games, and have not played at Hannaford Field since September 3.
