Today marked the 54th meeting in program history between Southern Maine and Husson. Facing each other for the first time since 2021 in the 2024 season, the Huskies and Eagles battled to a 1-1 draw. Five of the last six contests between the two programs have ended in a 1-1 draw. USM leads the overall series 22-18-8, including tonight's result.
How It Happened:
- Starting the game on the front foot, Southern Maine earned a pair of corners in the first two minutes, and were rewarded with a penalty after a handball in the box. Graver stepped up to the spot and buried his attempt to the right getting Husson's Liam Mason to dive left.
- Minutes later however, the Eagles were awarded a penalty of their own in the eighth minute after a foul in the 18. Husson's Nico Puerto laced his attempt to the left of Hammond, but the Southern Maine rookie was able to get down and stop the ball securely to keep USM up 1-0.
- Both teams battled the rest of the half, but Hammond and the Huskies defense kept it at 1-0.
- The Eagles and Huskies had chances in the second half, with each side registering 10 shots. Husson was able to get the game-tying goal in the 82nd minute after a corner. Wessel Eldering headed in the ball to the far post off of the service from Cesar Soucre.
