Keene State Defeats Southern Maine 15-3

GORHAM, Maine – Rex Maccarini recorded nine points from six goals and three assists for the Keene State College Owls on Saturday in a 15-3 Little East Conference win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Dylan Seymour had a hat trick for the Owls and Jaheim Lancaster scored twice. Freshmen Rodrigo Araujo (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) and Zach Smith (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood Union) each had a goal and an assist for the Huskies. Sophomore Owen Gaulrapp (Windham, Maine) also scored a goal.

How It Happened:
  • Maccarini scored the first three goals of the game to complete his hat trick in less than four minutes of game time. He went on the score once more in the quarter and Keene State also had two goals from Seymour and one from Nicholas McNulty. Araujo scored for the Huskies in the quarter with Smith assisting.
  • Keene State scored four additional goals in the second quarter to take an 11-1 lead at halftime.
  • The scoring tapered off in the third quarter with Keene recording two goals and the Huskies scoring once. Maccarini had a goal and an assist for the Owls and Smith scored for the Huskies.
  • The Owls outscored the Huskies 2-1 in the final quarter for the 15-3 final. Gaulrapp accounted for the Southern Maine goal with Araujo assisting.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Keene State led 14-7 in faceoff wins led by Jack Ricci. Ricci went 8-for-13 with six ground balls and Jack Theriault went 5-for-6. Sophomore Nick Shevchenko (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) went 6-for-15 for the Huskies with four ground balls.
  • Shevchenko and sophomore Lucas Rego (Dracut, Mass./Lowell Catholic) each had four ground balls for the Huskies.
  • The Owls benefited from 33 Southern Maine turnovers and caused eight of them. The Huskies caused nine of Keene State's 24 turnovers.

The Huskies will face Salem State University on Tuesday at 4:00 pm at Hannaford Field.
