Laslavic Ties Single-Season Wins Record in 19-6 Victory Against Rhode Island College; Gatchell Reaches 100 Career Caused Turnovers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Lydia Laslavic (Thomaston, Maine / Oceanside) made two saves in the first half of the University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse team's 19-16 win against Rhode Island College Anchorwomen on Wednesday to pick up her 11th win this season. She is now tied with Kim Vogel (2013) and Cece Racine (2022) for the most wins in a season. Fifth-year senior Kiaya Gatchell (Portland, Maine/Deering) also made history with a game-high six caused turnovers to become the fourth player in program history to reach the 100-caused turnover mark. She is now tied with Rosie Forster (2011-2014) for third in program history in caused turnovers with 100.
 
Sophomore Eliza Pattershall (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) had a career day with six goals and two assists. Junior Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) came a point behind Pattershall for the team lead with five goals and two assists. Seniors Elaina Hanselmann (Sanford, Maine) and Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./ Joseph A. Foran) each scored twice.

The Huskies are now 23-1 all-time against the Anchorwomen.

How It Happened:

  • Four different Huskies scored in a 4-0 first quarter. Pattershall scored the first goal on the up with Kinney assisting. Gatchell had the second goal with Hill assisting while Byers and Hill went on to score on free-position shots.
  • The Huskies continued their dominance with six goals in the second quarter. Pattershall recorded two of the goals plus an assist on a goal by Byers. Junior Raegan Bechard (Augusta, Maine/Cony) had a goal and an assist in the quarter. Sophomore Ella Burnell (Biddeford, Maine) also had a goal for the Huskies. The Anchorwoman finally got the ball past Laslavic with goals by Brie Macaruso and Claire Greene, the former coming with a woman-up.
  • Southern Maine scored six times in the third while allowing three goals. Hill had two goals and an assist while Pattershall scored twice. Junior Katelyn D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine) and Hanselmann scored goals as well.
  • Pattershall, Hill and sophomore Caitlin D'Andrea (Lewisonton, Maine) each had two points in the fourth quarter. Hill scored twice while Pattershall had a goal and an assist and D'Andrea assisted on two goals for her first points of the season.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • D'Appolonia had career-high nine draw controls and led the Huskies with six ground balls. Pattershall and Hill each had five draw controls and combined four nine ground balls with Pattershall with five and Hill with four.
  • The Huskies went 5-for-7 on free-position shots.
  • The Huskies will tie the program record for wins in a season with their next victory. The record of 12 was set by the 2013 team.

 
Up Next:
The Huskies will host Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1:00 pm at home. The team will be honoring their seniors ahead of the game as part of Senior Day.
