Huskies Fall to Panthers on Senior Day

GORHAM, Maine – The 2025 season came to an end for the University of Southern Maine men's lacrosse team on Tuesday with an 18-3 loss to Plymouth State University at home. The Huskies honored seniors Andrew James (Portland, Maine/Deering), Duncan Hayes (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and Luke Gagner (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) prior to the game as part of the team's Senior Day festivities.
 
The Plymouth State offense was led by a seven-point effort by Ryan Collins with five goals and two assists. Crosby Fay chipped in three goals and an assist while Leif Charbonneau had a goal and two assists in addition to winning 13 faceoffs.
 
Sophomore Owen Gaulrapp (Windham, Maine) led the Huskies with two goals. Junior James Kastrinakis (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) also scored a goal. Sophomores Adam Coley (Valencia, Cail./Cheshire) and Kaden Manning (Alfred, Maine/Massabesic) recorded assists for the Huskies. Freshman Nick Pastusak (Pittsville, Md./Parkside) made his first career start in goal and finished with 13 saves.

Plymouth State: Ethan Schena (9-4), 15:00, one goal allowed, one save
Plymouth State: Colin Dillon, 15:00, two goals allowed, one save
Plymouth State: Matt Montoya, 15:00, no goals allowed, four saves
Plymouth State: Gabriel Bonessi, 15:00, no goals allowed, zero saves
Southern Maine: Nick Pastusak (0-1), 60:00, 18 goals allowed, 13 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • The Panthers outscored the Huskies 6-1 in the opening quarter after starting the game on a 5-0 run. Gaulrapp put an end to the unanswered goals streak with 1:30 left in the quarter before the Panthers added a sixth goal 13 seconds later. Collins had two goals and an assist in the quarter.
  • Kastrinakis scored a man-up goal with 13:35 left in the second quarter before the Panthers ripped off another 5-0 run with Fay and Collins each scoring twice. Gaulrapp scored his second goal of the game with 7:42 left then Plymouth State closed out the half with three goals to take a 14-3 lead. Their final two goals were scored in the final 11 seconds of the half.
  • Montoya and Bonessi combined for a second-half shutout for the Panthers. Neither team scored in the third quarter and the Panthers added four more goals in the fourth for the 18-3 final score.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Panthers peppered Pastusak with 31 shots on goal while allowing just nine by the Huskies.
  • Charbonneau went 13-for-19 on faceoffs with six ground balls. Sophomore Nick Shevchenko (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) won six faceoffs for the Huskies and had five ground balls.
  • Plymouth State led 40-20 in ground balls.
