BANGOR, Maine – Senior
Anthony Poole (South Portland, Maine) was 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI as the University of Southern Maine Huskies rapped out 16 hits to defeat the Husson University Eagles 17-6 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at the Winkin Complex.
With Poole leading the way, six Husky hitters collected at least two hits off of the Husson pitchers. Collecting seven extra base hits off of the Husson staff, the Huskies had three doubles and four home runs in the contest. Junior
Dylan Firmin (Stratham, Maine) and sophomore
Mike Anquillare (North Haven, Mass.) each had solo shots to left field, while junior
Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and sophomore
Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine) each had a grand slam to put an exclamation point on the game.
Keblinsky and Douin, who were both 2-for-5 at the dish, are the first USM baseball players to hit a grand slam since Douin completed the feat on April 14, 2024 against Eastern Connecticut State. Douin now has two grand slams in his career. The record for grand slams in a career by a Husky is five and is held by former All-American Ryan Pike (2006-2009).

How It Happened:
- Southern Maine trailed the Eagles 4-0 after the bottom of the first as Husson collected a pair of two-run home runs in its first at bat. Taking advantage of a lead off walk, Jackson Curtis laced a two-run home run to left to start the scoring, and Hunter Curtis made it 4-0 with a home run of his own, also to left, driving in Matt Holmes who singled earlier in the inning.
- The Huskies cut the lead in half in the top of the second manufacturing a pair of runs off of a pair of hit batters, a single from Firmin, a passed ball, and an RBI ground out from junior Hunter Brissette (Lisbon, Maine).
- In the top of the third, Anquillare made it a one-run game with a solo shot to left field for the first home run of his Husky career. However, Husson took the run back in the bottom of the third with its third home run of the game this time off of the bat of Holmes for 5-3 Husson advantage.
- Southern Maine's bats really began to pop in the fourth inning as the Huskies took the lead scoring five runs on four hits and walk. Firmin led off the inning with a home run to make it a 5-4 game, setting the tone for a big inning. After a walk and a stolen base from junior Chris Quigley (Halifax, Mass./Silver Lake Regional), a single from Brissette, and a single from Poole to load the bases, Douin launched a four-run home run to center to clear the bases and put the Huskies up 8-5.
- Senior Lucas Francis (Lisbon, Maine), who entered the game in the second inning, and went on to be the winning pitcher of record put Husson down in order in the bottom of the fourth, and the Huskies went on to add a single run in the bottom of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Poole accounted for the RBI in the sixth, while Brissette singled through the right side for the run in the seventh, and Keblinsky knocked an RBI double in the eighth scoring Poole who led off the inning with a double.
- Leading 11-5 in the top of the ninth, the Huskies slammed the door on the game with six runs in their final at bat. Poole had a two-run single to push the lead to 13-5 before Keblinsky hit a grand slam home run after Douin was intentionally walked to load the bases for a 17-5 lead.
- Husson scored one in the bottom of the ninth, scoring its first run since the third inning, for the 17-6 final. Holmes accounted for the run with a two-out RBI double down the left field line before the Huskies ended the game via strikeout off the arm of junior Kyle Skolfield (Gorham, Maine).
