Bowdoin Beats Southern Maine 19-2

BRUNSWICK, Maine. – The Bowdoin College Polar Bears defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 19-2 on Tuesday night behind five goals from Lauren Burke. Miya Imaeda and Georgia Gallagher each scored three times and Mara Muse and Grace Harvey both scored twice. Junior Katelyn D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine) led the Huskies with a goal and an assist. Junior Raegan Bechard (Augusta, Maine/Cony) also scored for the Huskies.

Series History:
Bowdoin leads the all-time series 18-1. Today was the first game between the two Maine schools since 2015.
 
The Goaltenders:
Southern Maine: Lydia Laslavic (1-3), 60:00, 19 goals allowed, six saves
Bowdoin: Hannah Rubin (1-1), 60:00, two goals allowed, five saves
 
How It Happened:
  • Imaeda scored 40 seconds into the game to give Bowdoin a 1-0 lead. The lead was doubled just under two minutes later on a goal by Gallagher from Burke. The Huskies quickly responded with a goal by Bechard after a pass from D'Appolonia to make the score 2-1. Teams then traded goals with Imaeda and D'Appolonia each scoring for their team before the Polar Bears closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run.
  • Burke, Muse, Imaeda and Sydney Lennard scored in the second quarter to extend Bowdoin's lead to 12-2.
  • Bowdoin scored seven unanswered goals in the second half for the 19-2 final.

  • Bowdoin outshot Southern Maine 34-12 and led 18-7 in ground balls.
  • Southern Maine led 13-10 in draw controls with senior Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./ Joseph A. Foran) pacing the team with seven.
