Colin McDonald (Gorham, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' baseball team has been named the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association Pitcher of the Week. McDonald's recognition is the first of the season for the Huskies' right-handed pitcher.
McDonald earned his first win of the season, leading Southern Maine to a 12-2 win on the road at Rhode Island College in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader on Saturday. Allowing just one earned run on six hits and two walks, McDonald struck out seven, and retired eight batters in a row in the middle innings for a dominant performance. In four appearances this season, McDonald is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 22 innings pitched. McDonald has held is opponents to a .207 batting average and has 21 strikeouts.
Southern Maine heads to Endicott College on Wednesday (3:30 pm) for its next contest. The Huskies are slated to host UMass Dartmouth in a Little East Conference doubleheader on Saturday (12:00 pm).
