University of Southern Maine to Hold First Annual Wade Millett Memorial Basketball Games in Partnership with NAMI Maine

GORHAM, ME—  2/5/2025  —  Join the University of Southern Maine (USM), Wade Millett Memorial Foundation (WMMF), and NAMI Maine on Saturday, February 8th as the USM Huskies take on the Western Connecticut State Wolves in the first ever Wade Millett Memorial Basketball Games.

Held in memory of Wade Millett, USM alumnus and former basketball captain, these games will have information and resources available for attendees about mental health awareness and suicide prevention, special messages from WMMF and NAMI Maine at half time, and raffles for exciting prizes.

The games will take place at the Hill Gymnasium, located in the Costello Sports Complex in Gorham, Maine. The Women's game will begin at 12 PM, and the Men's game will begin at 2 PM.

NAMI Maine, WMMF and USM Athletics have collaborated to plan this mental health and suicide prevention event as part of their recent partnership that will be bringing NAMI Maine's mental health training programs to USM athletes and athletic staff this month. These trainings are made possible thanks to the generosity of the Wade Millett Memorial Foundation.

NAMI Maine, located in Hallowell, is part of the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Established in 2022 to honor a beloved friend and colleague who tragically died by suicide, the Wade Millett Memorial Foundation aims to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.

As an NCAA Division III member institution, Huskies' athletics places the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of all students' academic programs. University of Southern Maine Athletics seeks to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete's athletics activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete's educational experience. USM Athletics achieves this through the five key developmental areas: Academic Achievement, Athletic Performance, Personal Development, Career Development and Service to Community.  An NCAA Division III member, University of Southern Maine supports 23 intercollegiate teams (12 women, 11 men) and nearly 500 student-athletes.
