Maddie Kinney (Topsham, Maine/ Mt. Ararat) and
Katelyn D'Appolonia (Yarmouth, Maine) combined for nine goals for University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse team in a 20-11 win against the University of New England on Tuesday evening. Kinney posted seven points on four goals and three helpers. D'Appolonia scored five times and had two assists while also logging seven draw controls, four caused turnovers and four ground balls in her Southern Maine debut. The Huskies' offense also had four goals from junior
Cierra Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) while senior
Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./ Joseph A. Foran) and junior
Raegan Bechard (Augusta, Maine/Cony) each scored twice. Senior
Lydia Laslavic (Thomaston, Maine/Oceanside) made five saves for the Huskies.

Morgan White led UNE with four goals and an assist while Sydney Balotin scored twice and also had an assist.

How It Happened:
- D'Appolonia and Hill each scored twice in the first quarter. Molly Henderson and Izzy Broschk had goals for the Nor'easters.
- The Huskies' offensive ripped off a 4-0 run to start the second quarter with two scores from D'Appolonia and goals by Hill and Kinney. They outscored UNE 7-2 in total for the quarter and also had goals from Bechard and junior Molly Black (Windham, Maine). D'Appolonia added another goal in the final three minutes of the quarter.
- Southern Maine scored six more times in the third quarter. Both of Byers' goals came in the quarter and four other Huskies, D'Appolonia, Bechard, fifth-year senior Kiaya Gatchell (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Kinney, also found the back of the net. Gatchell and Kinney had assists in the quarter as well.
- UNE outscored the Huskies 4-3 in the final quarter, but the damage was already done. Balotin and White each scored twice for the hosts while Hill, Kinney and senior Elaina Hanselmann (Sanford, Maine) had the Southern Maine goals.

- The Huskies led 27-16 in shots on goal and 23-19 in ground balls. Junior Britney Hill (Pembroke, N.H./Pembroke Academy) had a game-high six ground balls. Kaylee Lucas led UNE with three.
- UNE had a 19-15 advantage in draw controls. D'Appolonia led all players with seven followed by Balotin with six.
- Southern Maine went 7-for-11 on free-position shots and UNE was 4-for-5.
