PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshmen
Lucy Wiles (Glenburn, Maine/Hampden Academy) and
Dakota Shipley (Bath, Maine/Brunswick) scored 12 and 11 points each to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a balanced 67-43 win over the Plymouth State University Panthers in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Foley Gymnasium.

Francesca Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) had nine points, while graduate student
Liz Cote (Conway, N.H./Kennett) and senior
Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine/Lincoln Academy) each had eight points. Shipley and senior
Jade Smedberg (Oxford, Maine/Oxford Hills) led the Huskies with six rebounds each, while Wiles had a team-best four assists. Senior
Maria Degifico (South Portland, Maine) had a game-high five steals to go with six points, and four rebounds.
Hailey Malozzi led all scorers with 19 points for the Panthers on 7-for-14 shooting. Malozzi added eight rebounds and three steals. Eli Cox and Raegan Peck had five points each, while Cox had a game-high nine rebounds.

SERIES HISTORY: Today's game marked the 1034d meeting between the Plymouth State University Panthers and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 95-8 and has won the last 15 over the Panthers, including a 63-56 win earlier this season for the season sweep.
How It Happened:
- Shooting 4-for-8 from the field in the first five minutes, Southern Maine raced out to a 13-0 lead to start the game, and finished the quarter outscoring the Panthers 25-4. Shipley and Cote combined for 11 of the Huskies first 13 points. Defensively, USM stifled the Panther offensive and pressured PSU into shooting 0-for-9 from the field in the first 4:48. The Panthers got on the board with 1-of-2 free throws from Sabrina Vlahovic at the 3:28 mark, but USM ran off another eight unanswered points, capped by two free throws from Degifico to lead 21-1. Malozzi scored the first of her 19 points with a three with under a minute to go before York and Ramsdell closed out the quarter with a bucket and two free throws respectively for the 25-4 margin. USM finished the quarter shooting 53.8 percent from the field.
- The second quarter was more evenly played as the Panthers outscored Southern Maine 11-9 to trail 34-15 at the halftime break. Malozzi and Ashley Stevens scored nine of the Panthers' 11 points. PSU was 7-for-10 from the free throw line during the second quarter to account for a bulk of its scoring. USMs' Smedberg and sophomore Emma Stred (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) each had three points to lead USM in the quarter.
- The Huskies found their scoring touch again in the third quarter nearly doubling up the Panthers 26-14 in the frame, going 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from the field, including a 4-for-9 mark from three. Shipley banged in a three to start the scoring in the third and both teams scored nine points in the opening 4:31 of action. A triple from PSU's Raegan Peck made it a 43-27 game with 4:17 on the clock before the Huskies' Wiles took over scoring nine of USM's 17 points to close out the quarter. Wiles was 3-for-5 from the field, including a three, and 4-for-5 from the free throw line with a steal, and three assists in the quarter.
- With a 60-29 lead in hand, the Huskies withstood the Panthers outscoring them 14-7 in the final frame for the 67-43 final.
Inside The Stats:
- Southern Maine shot 37.5 percent from three-point range making 10-of-28. Shipley, Cote and York each had a pair of threes for the Huskies. Plymouth State made three three-pointers on 22 attempts for 13.6 percent.
- Plymouth State had a 43-36 advantage in rebounding, including an 18-9 led in offensive boards. The Panthers scored 10 of their 43 points off of second chance buckets.
- USM scored 27 of its 67 points off of Panther turnovers. PSU turned the ball over 23 times in the contest, while Southern Maine made 18 turnovers. Seven of USM's turnovers were in the fourth quarter.

The Huskies return to the road on Saturday, February 22 (1:00 pm) for their final regular-season contest at VTSU-Castleton. Southern Maine will then prepare for the upcoming 2025 Little East Conference Championship Tournament on Tuesday, February 25 (tba). Currently, the Huskies are poised to host a home quarterfinal game.
