Huskies Win Fourth Little East Title in a Row!

2025 Little East Conference Women’s Soccer Championship: No. 3 Southern Maine 3, No. 4 WestConn 0; Przybilla Dishes Three Assists, Earns MOP Honors

GORHAM, Maine  -  Sophomore Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony's) filled the role of playmaker dishing out three assists and earning Most Outstanding Player honors to help the third-seed University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-0 win over the fourth-seed WestConn Wolves in the title game of the 2025 Little East Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.

With the win, Southern Maine claims the conference title for the fourth consecutive season (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025), and will make its fourth overall and fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

The Records:
No. 4 WestConn (13-8-2)
No. 3 Southern Maine (11-10-2)

Today's game marked the 40th meeting between the Western Connecticut State University Wolves and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Both teams battled to a 2-2 draw in the 2025 regular season.  Southern Maine is 5-0-2 against the Wolves in their last seven meetings. WestConn leads the overall series 32-6-2.

The Huskies have played the Wolves in each of their last four Little East Conference Championship appearances, defeating WestConn and outscoring the Wolves 12-1 during that stretch, including 2022 (3-1 2OT), 2023 (3-0), 2024 (3-0), and 2025 (3-0).

How It Happened:
  • After a quiet first 15 minutes that saw most of the action played central, Southern Maine began to find its footing offensively and put eight shots towards goal (three on frame) towards the WestConn net.  However, Wolves' goalkeeper Gracen Regan was able to stand tall making three saves.
  • Southern Maine broke through in the 35th minute on its ninth shot of the game when sophomore Makyla Magid (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) received a square ball from Przybilla and used the opening to drill a shot to the upper right corner.  Regan was able to get her hands on the ball, but it found its way to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead, and Magid's sixth goal of the season, and her second game-winning goal in as many games.
  • Down 1-0, the Wolves pushed back, controlling possession and earning three shots and a corner kick in the final 10 minutes, but USM's defense held for a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
  • USM nearly had a 2-0 lead just seconds into the second half when Magid's bid ricocheted off the right post. Magid's shot started a flurry of attempts from the Huskies in the second stanza, but Regan was up to the task making three saves in the first six minutes of action.
  • WestConn tested Husky freshman goalkeeper Madi Cook (Essex, Mass.) in the 54th, 55th and 58th minute but Cook made each of her three saves in the game to keep the 1-0 lead safe.
  • Despite offensive activity from the Wolves, Southern Maine made it 2-0 in the 60th when Przybilla hit a well-pace through ball onto the foot of sophomore Madi Sainis (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Saint Thomas). Splitting the defense with the pass, Sainis connected on her fourth goal of the season to the left of a on-rushing Regan.
  • Southern Maine closed the door on the game in the 68th. After earning a direct kick outside the 18, Przybilla stepped up and hit an outstanding service to the far post and onto the head of freshman Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine).  Morin powered in the header for her sixth goal of 2025.
  • From there both sides had additional chances, but the Huskies defense and midfield kept the Wolves off the board for the shutout.
