Danica Hebert Scores First Collegiate Goal for Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine  –  Three different players scored as the Keene State College Owls defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-1 in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field to close out the 2025 regular season.  Both teams will compete in the upcoming Little East Conference championship tourney.
 
Sophomore Danica Hebert (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) scored her first intercollegiate goal in the 57th minute to account for the Huskies' goal.
 
THE RECORDS

Today's game 49th meeting between Keene State College and the University of Southern Maine Huskies.  Keene State has won two straight. Prior to a 5-1 loss to the Owls in 2024, Southern Maine had won its last three meetings with Keene State, defeating KSC 1-0 in the 2023 LEC Championship game, 5-4 in overtime in the 2023 regular season, and earning a 3-2 win over the Owls in the semifinals of the 2022 Little East Conference Championship tournament.  The Huskies are 5-4 against the Owls in the last nine meetings. KSC leads the overall series, however, 33-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Meghan Daileans scored her 10th goal of the season to put KSC on top 1-0 in the 13th minute.
  • Emma Bazin doubled the Owls advantage in the 19th minute giving Keene State a 2-0 lead to take into the halftime break.
  • The score remained unchanged for through the third period. Southern Maine had four penalty corners in the third and turned in three shots but were unable to find a goal.
  • In the 50th minute, Grace Bazin made it 3-0 KSC converted on a penalty shot for team and conference-leading 36th goal of 2025. 
  • Hebert broke up the shutout in the 57th redirecting a centering pass from freshman Maddie Niles (Benton, Maine/Lawrence).
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Keene State held a 14-10 lead in shots, and a slim 7-6 lead in penalty corners. 
 
 
UP NEXT:
Southern Maine will begin preparations for the 2025 Little East Conference Field Hockey tournament.  The Huskies are the no. 3 seed in the Little East Conference tourney, and will host sixth-seed Plymouth State on Tuesday, November 4 (tba).  The winner will advance to the semifinal round of the championship and will face No. 2 Keene State on Thursday, November 6.
