WestConn Shuts Out Southern Maine 3-0

Huskies Host Nationally Ranked Bates on Tuesday (7:00 pm)


 
DANBURY, Conn.  -  Nickolas Santana scored twice, once in each half, to pace the WestConn Wolves to a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at The Western Athletic Complex.
 
With the win, WestConn remains undefeated in the Little East at 5-0. The loss is the first conference loss of 2025 for the Huskies.

Tonight's game marked the 34th meeting between the University of Southern Maine Huskies and the Western Connecticut State University Wolves.  WestConn leads the overall series 24-8-1. 
 
 
 
How It Happened:
  • Santana scored his 12th goal of 2025 in the eighth minute to put Western ahead early 1-0.   Aidan Roxo assists on the goal.
  • WestConn took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break as Matthews Rocha scored an unassisted marker in the 20th minute.
  • Santana sealed the game with his team and conference leading 13th goal of the season in the 67th minute, completing the assist from Kauan Brandalise.
  • Southern Maine put two shots on target in the contest. Junior Colin Albert (Gorham, Maine) forced WestConn goalie Makai Smith to make a stop in the closing seconds of the first half.  Smith also stopped a Husky penalty attempt in the 56th minute to keep the clean sheet.

Inside The Stats:
  • WestConn outshot the Huskies 18-2, and had a 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
  • Husky freshman Peter Sargent (Porltand, Maine) made a save off the line for Southern Maine in the 28th minute.  
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine hosts nationally-ranked Bates College on Tuesday (7:00 pm).  The Huskies return to conference action on Saturday, October 18 (1:00 pm) hosting VTSU-Castleton, and then host UMPI in non-conference action on Sunday, October 19 (12:00 pm).
