How It Happened:
  • In a fast-paced opening half, Southern Maine led the Beacons 28-23 with just over eight minutes remaining until the break. With 6:21 on the clock and the score stuck at 28-23, Allen canned a three on a feed from Lausier to start a 14-4 run over the next 2:58 of action to put the Huskies ahead 42-27 with 3:26 on the clock.  The Huskies were 6-for-7 from the field in the run led by five points from Allen.
  • Facing a 15-point deficit with minutes to go until the half, the Beacons responded with a 12-4 run to close out the first and head into the locker room down 46-39.  Barrett had seven points for UMB, while Sanders added five as the Beacons went 5-for-5 from the field down the stretch.
  • The Beacons continued to click offensively and made it a one-point game, 52-51, in the first four minutes of the second half, outscoring Southern Maine 12-6.  Laurent was pivotal in the run, scoring five points. The Huskies scored four unanswered on buckets from Lausier and Whelan to lead 56-51 with 14:49 to go, but the Beacons continued to fight and snagged a 57-56 lead with 13:22 to play with six unanswered points (all from Barrett) to set up a back-and-forth contest the rest of the game.
  • Exchanging points and the lead over the next 11 and a half minutes, the Beacons took a narrow 77-76 lead with 1:52 remaining in the contest after a layup from Victor.  Lausier answered back for Southern Maine with a jumper for his 32nd points of the game, and a 78-76 lead.  Minutes later, Lausier knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the Huskies lead to 80-77 with a minute to go.
