Huskies Get Back in Win Column with 5-1 Win over Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Audrey Donahue (Timberlea, Nova Scotia/ Kimball Union Academy) had a goal and two assists for the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a 5-1 non-conference road win over the Plymouth State University Panthers on Saturday afternoon. Junior Saige MacLeod (Dryden, Ontario) also stepped up offensively for the Huskies with a goal and an assist. Southern Maine's five goals came from five different players with junior Sydnee Chaisson (Stratford, Prince Edward Island/Mount Academy), senior Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Mass.) and Ellie Eigner (Bowling Green, Ohio/ South Lyon East) also finding the back of the net. 10 total Huskies recorded points in the win.

This afternoon's game was the 35th meeting between the Panthers and Huskies. The Huskies lead the series 26-8-1 and have won the last eight games.

How It Happened:
  • Lauren McNeil scored on the power play 2:31 into the first period to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. The score held from the remainder of the period as McKim finished the period with 10 saves.
  • The Huskies took a 2-1 lead with a pair of power-play goals from Chaisson and Eigner in the second period. MacLeod and senior Jess MacLean (Red Point, Nova Scotia) had assists on Chaisson's tally and Donahue and freshman Joely Power (Clarenville, Newfoundland/Mount Academy assisted on Eigner's score.
  • Southern Maine added three more goals in the third period. MacLeod scored the first 2:14 into the period with an assist by senior Amelie St-Amant (Ottawa, Ontario/ Ontario Hockey Academy). The second was scored by McLeish from Donahue 16:41 into the period and Donahue added a power-play goal in the final minute for the 5-1 final. Juniors Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) and Caroline Thompson (Victoria, Prince Edward Island/Mount Academy) had assists on the final goal.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The teams combined for 13 total penalties and three of Southern Maine's goals came on the power play. Plymouth State went 1-for-6 while the Huskies were 3-for-7.
  • The Huskies had a slight 33-31 lead in faceoff wins led by 12 by Stewart.
  • McKim now has 45 career wins and will tie the program record set by Karen Jamnik (2000-2004) with her next victory.
