How It Happened:
  • Ahead by nine, 12-3, midway through the first quarter after a layup from Cote at 4:44, the Huskies found themselves trailing the Owls 15-12 with 1:24 to play in the first quarter. After starting the game 1-for-6 from the field, the Owls rallied to surge ahead of the Huskies with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes.  The Owls were 5-for-8 during that stretch and led by four points from Dasaro. However, the Huskies were able to take a narrow 17-15 lead into the second quarter closing the frame on a 5-0 run all from the free throw line.
  • The Huskies scored the first basket of the second quarter after 2:30 ticked off the clock when Wiles extended the Husky lead to five, 20-15, with a three off of a feed from freshman Ali Portas (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester), before Cote made it a 23-15 lead with 6:47 left in the half with a three from Wiles. A three from senior Maddy York (Nobleboro, Maine/Lincoln Academy) pushed USM's lead to 28-18 with 2:39 to play before the Owls made it a two-possession game before the halftime break closing out the quarter on a 6-0 run led by four points from Rautiola.
  • Shooting 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from the field the Huskies were able to extend their lead to 49-40 heading into the fourth quarter.  The Owls were able to keep pace with the Huskies despite making just 3-of-12 from the field in the third by going 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
  • Shipley started the scoring in the third for the Huskies scoring on back-to-back tough finishes in the paint to put her team ahead 32-24 with 7:51 to play.  However, Luizzi made three consecutive free throws to keep the Owls within two possession on the next play.  Wiles and Shipley scored back-to-back for the Huskies, making it a 36-27 game with 6:04 to go in the third but Rautiola went 4-for-4 from the line over the next two Owl possessions.
  • The Owls continued to stay close to the Huskies and trailed 45-40 on another set of free throws from Rautiola with 46 seconds until the fourth quarter, before USM ran off a 4-0 spurt, including a buzzer-beating three from Portas to take a 49-40 lead into the final frame.
  • The Owls roared back into the game with back-to-back threes from Dasaro and Rautiola to start the fourth and trail USM 49-46 with 7:44 remaining.  However, the Huskies used a 7-0 run over the next 1:46 of action to lead 56-46 with 5:29 on the clock.  Wiles started the run with a three, while Stred had a jumper and Shipley connected on a pair of free throws.
  • Rautiola ended the scoring drought for the Owls with a jumper to make it a 56-48 game with 4:38 to play, but Wiles answered back with a three to kick start a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach.  Wiles had six points in the run, including a traditional three-point play with 41 seconds to go in the game.
