GORHAM, Maine – Juniors
Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and
Anthony Mears (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic) and sophomore
Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team have each earned 2023-2024 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Post-Season Honors. Additionally, freshman
Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) was selected to the NEWA All-Rookie Team.
Earning All-American honors at 149 lbs, Frost was named to the All-NEWA First Team, while Craig – a two-time NCAA Qualifer and 2023 All-American, earned a spot on the All-NEWA Second Team at 125 lbs. Mears, an All-Region wrestler at 197 lbs, earned an Honorable Mention citation.
Along with post-season honors, NEWA announced its All-Academic Team. Twelve Huskies achieved the academic distinction, including Craig, Frost and Mears, junior
Owen Bufagna (Newton, N.H./Central Catholic) – Business Marketing, sophomore
Jalen Charles (Port Jervis, N.Y./Middletown) - Elementary Education, freshman
Hagen Chase (Searsmont, Maine/Belfast Area) - Finance, freshman
Scott Ingalls (Windham, Maine) – Exercise Science, sophomore
Vinny Keeler (Rutherford, N.J.) - Marketing, senior
Henri Kuntz (Gorham, Maine) - Business, sophomore
Troy Moscatelli (Brookline, N.H./Hollis Brookline) – Cyber Security, senior
Dominic Pelletier (Raymond, Maine) – Physics and Computer Science, and
Colin Sevigney (Wells, Maine) – Elementary Education.
In his first season with the Huskies, Moore finished with a record of 17-11 and competed at 141 lbs for the Huskies at the 2023 Northeast Regional Championship. Moore had eight wins by technical fall, including a 19-4 win over Norwich's James Hoyt to help USM notch its program-record 10
th consecutive win during the regular season.
Placing seventh at the 2024 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship, Mears completed a solid season with a record of 14-10, including a 3-2 mark in the regional championship. Now a two-time All-Region wrestler for the Huskies, placing eighth as a rookie in 2022, Mears is now a two-time honorable mention selection. Mears is a Business Management major.
Qualifying for nationals as a freshman in 2023 and earning All-American honors, Craig, last season's NEWA Rookie of the Year, made a repeat appearance in his sophomore campaign after placing third at the regional championship. Looking to repeat as an All-American, Craig's National Championship tournament was cut short due to injury. Craig concluded his sophomore campaign with an outstanding record of 29-8, and sits at 55-12 in his career. He is now a two-time All-NEWA selection, earning first team honors as a freshman. Craig is a Cyber Security major.
Frost became the Huskies' eighth All-American in program history finishing sixth at the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championship. Making his second trip to nationals, after qualifying as a freshman in 2022, Frost secured his All-America status with a 6-4 come-from-behind win over returning All-American Charlie Stuhl of Augsburg. Finishing his season with a remarkable 26-6 record, Frost is 82-23 in his career. A three-time All-Region wrestler, placing third in 2024, fifth in 2023 and third in 2022, Frost is also a three-time All-NEWA selection earning second team honors in 2022, and honorable mention recognition in 2023. Frost is a Health Sciences major.
