BRIDGEWATER, Mass. –
Rachel Shanks (Naples, Maine/Lake Region) became the second player in the University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse history to score over 200 goals night thanks to a four-goal effort on Friday night in the Huskies' 11-10 win over the Bridgewater State University Bears. Shanks scored a free position goal in the final minute of the second quarter to put the Huskies ahead 7-6 and Southern Maine never lost the lead thanks to solid defensive play and seven second half saves from senior goalie
Cece Racine (Lewiston, Maine). Five of those saves came in the fourth quarter.

Kiaya Gatchell (Portland, Maine/Deering) had a hat trick for the Huskies while junior
Anna Byers (Milford, Ct./ Joseph A. Foran) had two goals and two assists. Byers also had six draw controls. Senior
Paige Rinaldi (Freeport, Maine) recorded a goal, an assist, four draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior
Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) scored the first goal of her career in the fourth quarter. Her goal gave the Huskies some much-needed breathing room late in the game and served as the game-winner.

Erin McIntyre scored four goals and assisted on two more for the Bears. Meredith Sylvia and Camryn Gonsalves both scored twice with Gonsalves picking up an assist as well. Hannah Bowlby had two assists and the Bears also had goals from Savannah Herrington and Katy Shaw.

Series History:
Tonight's win is Southern Maine's first against Bridgewater State. The Bear had won the three prior meetings including a 14-11 win in Gorham last season. The Huskies have scored 11 goals in three of the four games.

How It Happened:
- The first two goals of the game were scored by Bridgewater State before the Huskies responded with two goals of their own. The Bears then scored two more goals to go ahead 4-2 but the Huskies ended the quarter with three consecutive goals to lead 5-4 after the first frame. Byers had two goals and an assist in the quarter. Shanks had a goal and an assist and Rinaldi scored on a free position shot with seven seconds left to give the Huskies the lead.
- Shaw tied the game at 5-5 on a free position shot and the Bears reclaimed the lead on another successful free position attempt with McIntyre netting the goal. Gatchell tied the game at 6-6 with 4:46 left in the half and Shanks gave the Huskies the lead with a free position goal of her own with 41 seconds left in the quarter.
- Each side scored twice in the third quarter with Shanks and Gatchell accounting for the Southern Maine goals and Sylvia and Gonsalves scoring for the Bears.
- The Huskies pulled away with two goals in the span of 1:07 in the fourth quarter. Shanks scored the first with an assist from Byers and Gould scored an up-goal for the first tally for the career after getting a pass from Rinaldi. The Bears closed the gap to 11-10 with 2:51 remaining thanks to two goals from McIntyre that were both assisted by Bowlby. The hosts could not complete the comeback as Racine stopped the next three shots she faced including two in the final minute.

- The Huskies led in draw controls 14-11. Byers led all players with six.
- The Bears had a slight 18-17 lead in ground balls. Racine paced Southern Maine with five and Herrington led Bridgewater State with four. Herrington also had five draw controls.
- Shanks joins Jessica Knight as the only players in program history to score 200 plus goals. Knight holds the program record with 209Â goals from 2007-2010. Shanks now has 203 in her career.
- Shanks is also approaching Knight's career points record of 248. Shanks has 246 career points in 70 career games.
