All-American Colby Frost Rumbles to Sixth Place Nationally

LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Wrestling from a must-win situation after his first bout, junior Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team battled his way to All-America honors and finished sixth place nationally at the 2024 NCAA Division III Wrestling  National Championship Tournament held at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Opening his tourney with a loss against two-time All-American and defending national champion Baldwin Wallace's Michael Petrella, Frost kept his composure and gritted his way to three consecutive wins to secure NCAA Division III All-America honors in the 149 lb weight class. On his way to becoming the Huskies' eighth wrestling All-American, Frost took down two seeded opponents, and an returning All-American.  Frost secured his All-America status with a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over fourth-seed and 2023 All-American Charlie Stuhl of Augsburg.

Frost began his second day of competition against another seeded opponent RIT's Mike Glynn. In a hard-fought and back-and-forth contest, Frost came out on top in overtime 7-4.  Frost led the first period 3-2 scoring a takedown, but Glynn tied the match up in the second period with an escape.  Starting on the bottom in the third period, Frost went ahead 4-3 with an escape, but Glynn was awarded a penalty point for a 4-4 match setting up the extra period.  In overtime, Frost took a shot and scored a takedown for three points with four seconds remaining for the 7-4 final.

Advancing to the consolation semifinals, Frost took losses in his final two bouts to place sixth overall. He concludes his 2023-2024 season with an outstanding record of 26-6. A three-time All-Region wrestler and a two-time NCAA qualifer, Frost is 82-23 in three seasons.
