Kaleb Pool Secures Win at 157 with Technical Fall

GORHAM, Maine    –  Junior Kaleb Pool (Tucson, Arizona/Tucson) earned a 17-1 technical fall victory at 157 lbs to deliver the University of Southern Maine Huskies a 26-23 come-from-behind win over the Norwich University Cadets, securing a program-record 10th consecutive dual meet victory, Saturday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium. 
 
Pool was the final of three consecutive wins by technical fall for the Huskies in the 26-23 victory over the Cadents to improve Southern Maine's record to 14-6.  Norwich is now 3-8 in dual meets.

On the Mat:
  • Starting at 165 lbs, Norwich led the Huskies 17-6 after the 285lb match, a 1:36 win by fall by the Cadets' Mason Sprinkel. Husky freshman Derek Cote (Lebanon, Maine/Noble) scored USM's lone points during that stretch with a 2:00 win by fall at 174 lbs.
  • Sophomore Jake Craig (Skowhegan, Maine) ended the Norwich run, working his way to a 16-1 (5:27) technical fall victory against Jabari Pinkney at 125 lbs, making the score 17-11 in favor of the Cadets.  Top-ranked in the region and nationally ranked in his weight class, Craig is now 24-5.
  • Norwich earned six points at 133 lbs as Carver Moyer earned a 0:53 pin against USM freshman Hagen Chase (Searsmont, Maine/Belfast Area). Moyer's fall gave the Cadets a 23-11 lead, but it was the final points of the match for Norwich.
  • Ranked eighth at 141 lbs, Husky freshman Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) scored the first of three wins by technical fall.  Moore outscored his opponent 19-4 (4:41) to cut USM's deficit to 23-16.
  • Ranked fifth at 149 lbs, junior Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) overpowered his opponent 23-8 (6:31) for another five points for the Huskies, and a 23-21 match. Frost has won 13 consecutive bouts and is now 17-2 on the season.
  • With the match on the line, Pool outmaneuvered his opponent 17-1 to earn the technical fall and necessary points for the match victory.   Pool is 17-8 overall and has won his last two bouts.
