FARMINGTON, Maine – Graduate student
Liz Cote (Conway, NH/Kennett) led all scorers with 16 points to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 74-44 win over the UMaine Farmington Beavers in a non-conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Dearborn Gymnasium.
Cote was one of three Huskies in double-figures. She was joined by freshman
Lucy Wiles (Glenburn, Maine/Hampden Academy) with 13 points, and junior
Vanessa Vaughan (Hantsport, Nova Scotia/King's Edge Hill) with 11 points.

Today's game marked the 59
th meeting between the UMaine Farmington Beavers and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 47-12, and earned a 74-56 win over UMF last season on November 29, 2023. The Huskies have won 17 consecutively over UMaine Farmington dating back to the 2000-2001 season.
How It Happened:
- Southern Maine led wire-to-wire in the contest en route to the win, scoring the first six points of the game on back-to-back threes from Wiles and Vaughan. Vaughan finished the game with a game-high eight rebounds, and added six assists to her 11 points.
- The Huskies led 11-4 in the first quarter after a three from Wiles with 4:36 on the clock before the Beavers clawed their way back with an 8-3 run to make it a 14-12 game with 44 seconds in the quarter following a free throw from Jadyn Pingree. The Huskies took a 16-12 lead into the second quarter, however, as Julissa McBarron hit a jumper on the next play.
- USM outscored UMF 19-7 in the second quarter to take a commanding 35-19 lead at the halftime break. Cote scored seven of the Huskies' 10 points in a pivotal 10-3 run in the first five minutes of the second quarter as USM assumed a 26-15 lead.
- The Huskies continued to cruise in the third quarter, and doubled up the Beavers 50-25 on a Cote three with 4:02 left in the frame. UMF outscored USM 6-2 in the final 2:50 of the quarter to make it a 22-point deficit, 53-31, headed to the fourth.
- In the fourth quarter, freshman Morgan Cunningham (Augusta, Maine/Cony) led the way for USM scoring a season-best nine points as the Huskies outscored the Beavers 21-13 for the 74-44 final.

- USM shots 36.2 percent (25-for-69) from the field in the game, and 37.5 percent from three (12-for-32).
- Led by Vaughan's eight rebounds, the Huskies led in rebounds 49-29, and had 21 offensive boards to UMF's five. The Huskies scored 25 second chance points.

The Huskies host Thomas College on Saturday, November 23 (4:00 pm), and Bates College on Tuesday, November 26 (5:30 pm) before hitting the road for its next five contests in December. The Huskies start their month-long road swing at Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Sunday, December 1 (5:00 pm).
