Today's game marked the ninth meeting between the Spartans and the University of Southern Maine Huskies. Southern Maine leads the overall series 6-3, winning both 2023 contest including a 4-1 win over VTSU-Castleton in the regular season, and a 2-1 overtime win in the 2023 Little East Conference semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a back-and-forth first half that saw both teams with chances to take the lead, the Spartans used a high-pressure third quarter to break through for the go-ahead goal. Set up at the far post, Richardson was able to get her stick on the ball following a driven centering pass from Vincent for her 11th goal of the season late in the third quarter.
- The Spartans started the fourth quarter off threatening for a second goal, registering four penalty corners in the opening five minutes, but the Huskies' defense was able to bend and not break keeping it 1-0, including solid goalkeeper from junior Eleanor Folsom (Winthrop, Maine).
- The Huskies threatened for an equalizer in the final minutes of the game, earning four penalty corners and putting a few shots towards goal, but were unable to push one across the goal.

- VTSU-Castleton outshot the Huskies 13-10, including 6-1 in the third quarter when the Spartans scored their goal. The Spartans also had a 15-8 lead in penalty corners, including a 7-1 advantage in the third quarter.
