Late Goal Leads Beacons Past Huskies 2-1

BOSTON, Mass. – Katie Wilbert scored a power-play goal with 7:45 left in third period to break a 1-1 tie between the UMass Boston Beacons and the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Saturday. The Beacons extended their winning streak to six games with the win. Jenna Majewski assisted on both UMass Boston goals.
 
Sophomore Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy) scored Southern Maine's goal, also on the power-play, with assists from graduate student Jordan Colbert (Manomet, Mass./Plymouth South) and junior Ally Stymiest (Moncton, New Brunswick/Mount Academy).

The Beacons lead the series 22-14-3. The teams tied 0-0 in Gorham on November 17.

How It Happened:
  • Emily Hansen put the Beacons ahead 1-0 with a power-play goal 14 minutes into the first period with assists from Majewski and Mia Boyd. Stewart tied the game 2:12 later with a power-play goal of her own, her second of the weekend and her fourth in the last five games.
  • Wilbert scored a power-play goal to give her team the lead after Majewski collected a long pass and fed her the puck.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Huskies put 17 shots on goal while the Beacons had 30.
  • Sophomore Saige MacLeod (Dryden, Ontario) blocked three shots.
  • All three goals were scored on the power-play.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies will return home to play Vermont State University Castleton on Friday, February 2.
