GORHAM, Maine - Teja Andrews scored 18 points to lead five players in double-figures as the No. 25 UMass Dartmouth Corsairs defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 76-64 in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Thursday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium.
Andrews was 8-for-11 from the field for her team-high total adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Tyah Pettaway came off the bench for 14 points and six rebounds, while Carly Whiteside had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Melanie DeMeo rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Corsairs with 10 points.

Liz Cote (Conway, N.H./Kennett) continued her hot-shooting at Hill Gym scoring a game-high 21 points on seven three-pointers. Senior
Tamrah Gould (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) added 11 points, three steals and two assists, while sophomore
Vanessa Vaughan (Hantsport, Nova Scotia) had nine points off of the bench. Senior
Amy Fleming (Berwick, Maine/Noble) had a team-high six rebounds and four blocked shots.

Today's game marked the 84
th meeting between the University of Southern Maine and UMass Dartmouth. Southern Maine leads the overall series 67-18, but UMass Dartmouth has won the last 11 games over the Huskies.
How It Happened:
- Ahead 20-19 after the first quarter, the Corsairs outscored the Huskies 17-9 in the second quarter to take a 37-28 at the halftime break. Pettaway had 12 points in the first half, including eight in the first quarter. The Corsairs held the Huskies to just one free throw in the opening six minutes of the second quarter as part of a 12-1. Cote hit the Huskies' first field goal of the frame at the 4:19 mark.
- Trading baskets to start the third, the Huskies cut their deficit to seven, 46-39, on a layup from Vaughan before UMD answered with four consecutive points on a three from Amaris Mills, and one of two free throws from Whiteside to push its lead to 11, 50-39, with 4:07 to play. Threes from Cote and junior Luna Love (Zwolle, Netherlands) sandwiched around one free throw for the Corsairs made it a two-possession game, 51-45, with 2:44 to go in the quarter. However, UMass Dartmouth closed the third on a 7-2 run to take a 58-47 lead headed into the fourth.
- Cote connected on her seventh three of the game to start the Huskies off in the fourth to make it a 58-50 game with 9:30 to go, but the Huskies were unable to get closer than eight the rest of the way for the 76-64 final.
