NEW LONDON, N.H. – Senior
Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn./ Nathan Hale-Ray) recorded eight kills, seven digs, an ace, and a block assist in a solid all-around effort to help lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a road win over the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers on Thursday night in non-conference volleyball action. The win is the first of the season for Huskies.

Series History:
Southern Maine and Colby-Sawyer have now faced off 11 times with the Huskies winning seven of those contests. The last time the two teams met was on October 30, 2019 when the Huskies won in five sets.
How It Happened:
- The Huskies won a marathon first set 30-28 after eight lead changes and both teams extending the set multiple times. Sophomore Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) had four of the Huskies' nine kills in the opening set.
- In the second set Southern Maine broke a 13-13 tie with a seven-point run and held on despite the Chargers cutting the lead to two points. The Huskies were able to close out the set 25-18 by scoring the final five points of the frame with freshman Darrien Pugsley (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) recording three straight aces during the final stretch.
- Colby-Sawyer took a 17-11 lead during the third set before the Huskies mounted a comeback by scoring eight points in a row. The rally featured two aces from freshman Amelia Beatty (Rochester, N.H./ Spaulding). The Chargers would tie the set at 23-23 before the Huskies took their final lead of the night off a Delloiacono kill and junior Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) ended the match with another Southern Maine service ace.
Inside The Stats:
- The Huskies recorded 11 aces in the match led by four apiece from Pugsley and Beatty.
- Delloiacono and Johnson each had eight kills to tie for the team lead. Delaney Skourtis led the Chargers in the stat with 12.
- Freshman Mia Mantini (Merrimack, N.H.) had 15 assists to reach double figures for the first time in her career.
- Smith recorded a team-leading 11 digs and filled out her stat sheet with four assists, three kills, and an ace.
- Huskies' freshman Anyelis Hernandez (Lawrence, Mass.) made her collegiate debut and was a force in front of the net with two solo blocks and a block assist.
- Colby-Sawyer's Brooke Patnode led all players in assists with 27 and also had eight digs.
- Audra Fontes had a game-high 15 digs for the Chargers.

The Huskies will face Vermont State University Lyndon on Saturday on the road. The match is set to begin at noon.
