Will Smith Scores For Huskies

MILTON, Mass. -  Senior Will Smith scored in the 14th minute and junior Simon Gabaree made six saves as the University of Southern Maine Huskies drew the Curry College Colonels in a non-conference men's soccer game Monday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.
 
Both teams are undefeated in 2023, winning their season openers before drawing level in today's contest.
 
The Records:

Today's contest is the third meeting in program history between Southern Maine and Curry.  The Huskies took a 1-0 overtime victory at Curry in 2021, and both teams battled to a 1-1 draw in 2022 at Hannaford Field. The Huskies are now 1-0-2 against Curry all-time.
 
How It Happened:
  • Curry outshot Southern Maine 8-3 in the first half, but Gabaree kept the Colonels off the scoreboard, making three first half saves.
  • Smith put the Huskies ahead 1-0 in the 14th minute with an unassisted goal. The goal is the first of the season for the Husky forward.
  • Curry was able to pull even just before the end of regulation to salvage the tie at home.  Richard Savage finished an assisgt from JD Santiago with just under a minute to play in the full 90.

Inside The Stats:
  • Gabaree made three saves in each half for the Huskies to improve his collegiate record to 1-0-1. 
 
Up Next:
Southern Maine returns home to face Lesley on Wednesday, September 6 (4:00 pm).   The Huskies hit the road again on Saturday (3:00 pm) to take on University of New England.
