UMass Dartmouth Sweeps Southern Maine 3-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth Corsairs defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies in straight sets on Saturday in a Little East Conference women's volleyball contest. The Corsairs recorded 40 kills in the match and hit .298.

UMass Dartmouth now leads the all-time series 24-11.
 
How It Happened:
  • UMass Dartmouth won the first set 25-11 and pulled away thanks to a 10-point run that featured four aces and four kills.
  • The Corsairs led for the majority of the second set on their way to a 25-18 set win.
  • The third set ended 25-13 in UMass Dartmouth's favor to give them the sweep.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • Kate Wade and Devon Laing each logged 13 points for the Corsairs. Wade recorded a game-high 11 kills and added two aces. Laing led all players in aces with five and had eight kills.
  • Brooke Wittmer recorded 15 digs and finished one ahead of senior Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) for the game lead. Junior captain Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) also reached double figures with 11 while two Corsairs, Laign and Skye Peters, nearly got there with nine apiece.
  • The game's leader in assists was freshman Cassidy Weiher (Aurora, Colo./ Cherokee Trail) with 23. Sabrina Bordone had 15 and Peters had 12 for UMass Dartmouth.
  • Weiher has recorded over 20 assists in five games and has recorded exactly 23 three times.
  • Senior Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn./ Nathan Hale-Ray), sophomore captain Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) and junior Madison Zimmer (Regina, SK,/Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic) each had six kills for Southern Maine.
