Julia McKenna (Windham, Maine) each had two goals and an assist to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 6-0 shutout win over the UMaine Farmington Beavers in a non-conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) added two goals, and senior goalkeeper
Breanna Atwood (Franklin, Mass.) made one save to earn her fourth shutout of the season and tie the Huskies' program record for shutouts in a career. Atwood currently has 19 career shutouts, tying the record set by Husky Hall of Fame member Samantha Whitman '01.

Today's game marks the 35
th meeting between UMaine Farmington and the University of Southern Maine. The Huskies lead the overall series 26-5-4, and have won the last five games consecutively, including a 4-0 result in 2022.

How It Happened:
- Rietchel gave the Huskies an early 1-0 lead with what proved to be the game-winning goal in the second minute. Carrying the ball down the right side of the field, Reitchel launched a shot to the upper far corner past the outstretched hands of the UMF keeper.
- Gould quickly made it 3-0 scoring a brace with goals in the fifth and eighth minute. Gould beat her defender into the box for her first goal, and then ran on to an outstanding through ball from senior Eliza Roy (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills).
- The Huskies went up 4-0 in the 18th minute when McKenna notched the first of her two goals of the game, taking a ball from Gould and slotting it into the net. The 4-0 score would remain through the half.
- The Huskies tacked on two more in the 69th and 87th minute for the 6-0 final. Reitchel picked up a ball from McKenna on the near side, took a touch and hit a far post shot for her brace. McKenna closed out the scoring with a fantastic individual effort, scoring an Olimpico off of the Huskies 11th corner of the game.
- Southern Maine outshot UMF 35-3 (21-1 on goal). Atwood made the lone save of the game for the Huskies on a point-blank shot from Grace Mahmood after a giveaway in the Huskies' defensive third.

- Gould now has a team-leading eight goals on the season, and 37 in her career. She is closing in on the Huskies' program record for goals in a career (43) set by Ciera Berthiaume (Windham, Maine) in 2022.
- McKenna and Gould are tied for the team lead in points. Gould has eight goals and one assist for 17 points, while McKenna has six goals and five assists for 17 points. USM has six players with at least two goals. Reitchel has five goals, including a pair of game-winners.
