STANDISH, Maine – The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team was defeated by the University of New England on Friday evening by a score of 3-0 as part of the Coast of Maine Classic hosted by Saint Joseph's College.

Series History:
Today's match was the 63rd meeting between the two programs and the times last met on September 2, 2022 with the Huskies coming away with a 3-2 win. UNE leads the all-time series 40-23.

How It Happened:
- UNE took control of the first set thanks to an 8-0 run after trailing 9-8. Two of their eight points during the run came from service aces.
- The Huskies scored the first point of the second set but the Nor'easters countered by winning the next seven points.
- Down 22-18 late in the second set the Huskies roared to life and scored six consecutive points to go up 25-24. Sophomore Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) had two kills during the run.
- UNE tied the game at 24-24 before the Huskies went ahead by a point. The Nor'easters were able to win the next point to tie the set once again and then added two more points to win the set 27-25.
- In the third set UNE got off to an early 9-1 lead and never surrendered the lead. They took the set 25-13 to sweep the match 3-0.

Inside The Stats:
- Senior Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn./ Nathan Hale-Ray) led the Southern Maine attack with six kills and also logged six digs and a block assist.
- Johnson and junior Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) each had four kills to tie for second on the team. Smith also led the team in assists and her 12 matched UNE's Addie Miller for the game-high.
- Freshman Cassidy Weiher (Aurora, Colo./ Cherokee Trail) had a strong collegiate debut with a team-leading 11 assists plus three digs, a block assist, and an ace.
- Ellijah Hanley and Arden Caley each had nine kills to lead UNE.
- Kassidy Bradshaw recorded 21 assists for the Nor'easters.
- UNE had 38 kills as a team compared to Southern Maine's 19 and also out blocked the Huskies 6-3.
Up Next:
Southern Maine returns to action tomorrow for the second day of the event and will face Saint Joseph's at 10:00 am and then play Maine Maritime Academy following that match.
