HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bates led 1-0 in the second after Ben Genser hit an RBI single through the left side. Genser drove in Jamieson who led off the inning with a single down the left field line. Jamieson advanced to second on a hit batter, and then stole third for his Bates' record 24th stolen base of the year.
- The Huskies bounced back in the home half of the inning scoring three runs on three hits. Senior Brogan Searle-Belanger (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) drew a one out walk and moved to third on two wild pitches. Searle-Belanger scored the game-tying run on an RBI single to center from sophomore Anthony Poole (South Portland, Maine).
- After another out, Poole stole second to put himself in scoring position and senior Tom Vesosky (Colchester, Vermont) made it 2-1 USM with a single through the right side. The Huskies tacked on one more run in the inning as junior Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) singled to left to move Vesosky to third, before he scored on a passed ball.
- The score remained unchanged until the top of the fifth when the Bobcats struck for three runs and a 4-3 lead. Bates had four consecutive singles to start the fifth, including an RBI single to right from Tyler Attal and an RBI single to right from Jamieson. Joe Bianchi picked up the final RBI of the inning after being hit by a pitch.
- Vesosky tied the game up at 4-4 for the Huskies in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to center, scoring Poole. Poole reached safely with a two-out single to right.
- Bates went up 6-4 in the top of the seventh on an RBI double to left from John Nowak, scoring Brandon Biggane, and an RBI single through the right side from Drew Fallon.
- McAlpine sat the Huskies in order in the seventh, and worked around a lead off walk in the eight with the help of a double play to keep it 6-4 in favor of the Bobcats.
- In the top of the ninth, Huskies' Matt Burnett (Ellsworth, Maine) entered the game and got three straight outs to keep the Huskies in striking distance. In the top of the ninth, the Huskies used a hit-by-pitch to Vesosky, and a walk to freshman Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) to put pressure on Bates. Senior Jason Komulainen (Gorham, Maine) drove in Vesosky with an RBI single through the left side, but Bates was able to get the final out to keep the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Vesosky was one of three Husky hitters with multiple hits. He was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Komulainen and Poole each had two hits and an RBI.
